HEROES OF IMPILTUR
The name of the clan of Minotaur assassins that attempted to kill the heroes. Aortaa was also the name of the leader of the clan. The heroes killed Aortaa and broke the clan’s strength. Tsol’s journal of Saskatel Reven indicated that the clan had been bestowed Targore’s ancient Armor of the Crimson Tide (which they later found enshrined in the Minotaur’s lair). The clan had developed an obsession with hearts presumably because the armor was missing its centerpiece, the “Heart of the Hero.” Somehow, over time, the clan had come to build their entire society around the ideal of stealing hearts to gain power. The motivations behind why the Minotaurs attacked the players remained unclear. Their best guess was the clan had learned of Tsol’s possession of two other ancient relics from the set and wanted to steal his power or stop him from seeking the armor. The clan had developed the ability to take the hearts from hoofed creatures and steal their power. There were four castes in the clan:
- Pale Bloodfiends: The lowest caste. Members of this class had yet to take any remarkable hearts. Bloodfiends were like a cross between a Minotaur and a vampire. They had pale skin, white fur, red eyes, and fangs.
- Cinderhoof Tramplers: Members of this caste had tasted the heart of a Nightmare. They had jet black skin, red highlights in the fur, fangs, and flaming hoofs.
- Ironskin Warriors: Members of this caste had eaten the heart of a Gorgon. They had metallic skin, fur, and horns. They could also project a poisonous breath weapon that caused petrification.
- Shardhorn Hunters: Members of this caste had consumed the heart of a Unicorn. They had pale skin, white fur, fangs, and crystalline horns. They wielded Unicorn horns as daggers and had the power to teleport and turn invisible.
