Demonstone

Demonstone.png
Formerly known as the Dwarfstone, this ancient artifact was once a power for the forces of good. The stone was capable of creating a tower that could only be entered by the pure of heart. The demon Tharos tricked one of the occupants of the tower into giving him the stone. He infused a piece of his own essence into the artifact, corrupting it. During the early years of warfare and strife in Narfell, the Demonstone passed through many different demons’ hands. Each imprinted the stone with a piece of their own essence (kind of like the Stanley Cup of Demons). Much later in Impiltur, the Fraternity of Tharos sprung up using the Demonstone and the Demontower that it created as the cornerstone of their power. The party used the Moaning Crown of Ndulu to enter the Demontower and advanced through its levels. The demon Tharos appeared holding the Demonstone and revealed that because the party had been wearing the Crown, it now knew all of the other demon’s names inscribed into the stone. Tharos used this information to reclaim sole mastery over the Demonstone and gained the power to dominate all of the other demons as well. Using this power, Tharos reformed the tower into his image, used the Demonstone to rip open a portal to the Abyss, and and began summoning aspects of the other demons to slay the heroes. During the battle, when the death blow was dealt to Tharos, the feedback from his death throes traveled through his link to the Demonstone and destroyed it.
