HEROES OF IMPILTUR
Hucan can refer to the Empire or the Saffron Son – indeed some might argue that they are one and the same. The ancient Hucan Empire existed over 1,000 years ago and encompassed what is today known as the Earthwood, Icemelt Lake, and Firefly Swamp of the nation of Impiltur. Central to the success of the Empire is the Saffron Son, also called Hucan, a child that is born once every 1,000 years with an intrinsic link to the land. Once vested with the powers of the Saffron Son, the child gains nearly god-like powers within the Hucan borders. The ancient minotaur hero Targore and his companions were pressed into service by the ancient Hucan Empire. The ancient Empire fell into ruin when their Saffron Son was assassinated. The remnants of the Empire retreated into Earthwood and started the long wait for the birth of the next child.
Nearly a thousand years later, the The famous explorer, Ian Silvermane stumbled upon the ceremony were the Hucan council of wise-men were presenting the new Saffron Son with the gifts that would grant him his powers. They spotted Ian and invited him to also give the child a present. Ian gave the child his legendary wide-brimmed, explorers hat. Unknowingly this granted the child a spirit of independence and adventure never before seen in any of the previous Saffron Sons (it appears that the ceremony gave the wise-men some measure of control over the child). Angered by Ian’s gift, Texotl, the wise-man of spirituality and the dead, attacked him. At around the same time, the heroes had entered the Hucan ruins looking for a flying frog. They narrowly defeated Texotl’s undead and rescued Ian.
Months later, Hucan fell under the influence of the devil Fistem who manipulated the naive boy into using his powers to unknowingly cause harm to the army of Impiltur. The party interceded and confronted Fistem. Alkorahil gave Hucan a fairy puppet as a gift which allowed him to befriend the child and expose Fistem’s deception. With the good foundation laid down by the heroes, the outlook for the relations between the new Hucan Empire and Impiltur looks promising.
